2013 VIVA ENDOVASCULAR FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM AT THE FOGARTY INSTITUTE FOR INNOVATION
The Advanced Endovascular Fellowship Program at the Fogarty Institute for Innovation is a one-year, non-ACGME, experiential training program that provides broad exposure to all aspects of endovascular patient care, with an emphasis on interventional training. Fellows will be based at the Fogarty Institute for Innovation, located on the El Camino Hospital Campus in Mountain View, CA, and will benefit from immersion within an innovative and entrepreneurial environment that includes a busy clinical trials operation. This unique multi-disciplinary program has been generously subsidized by VIVA Physicians and El Camino Hospital’s Heart & Vascular Institute of El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA.
The Advanced Endovascular Fellowship offers an unrivaled educational and clinical training experience. Fellows will have the opportunity to expand their talent in their chosen field by working side by side with experts in other endovascular specialty areas. Fellows will receive cross-training and extensive endovascular experience in all areas of intervention, including structural heart, carotid intervention, complex aneurysm repair, renal and mesenteric intervention, and all aspects of lower extremity intervention including limb salvage. Participants will be exposed to clinical and advanced imaging aspects of caring for patients with cardiac and vascular disease, and will actively participate in a robust clinical research program. Publication of research efforts is encouraged and Fellows will attend the annual VIVA: Vascular InterVentional Advances conference in October.
The Advanced Endovascular Fellowship offers educational opportunities not typically found in similar training programs. At the Fogarty Institute for Innovation, Fellows are exposed to a dynamic environment to learn practical approaches to medical technology innovation and entrepreneurship. Fellows will have opportunities to engage with early stage medical device companies; providing clinical feedback and learning the process of technology commercialization. Additionally, fellows will learn about the business and systems of a community hospital through special sessions with El Camino Hospital senior leadership.

2013/2014 - Fellowship Recipient
|"As the field of endovascular and structural heart disease interventions advances, the need for proper physician training grows. The Fogarty Institute for Innovation, El Camino Hospital and Vascular Interventional Advances (VIVA) have partnered to create a vibrant environment for learning with access to clinical research, medical innovation, progressive technology and skilled physician mentors. During the VIVA Advanced Endovascular Fellowship, I will gain advanced endovascular procedural skills (alongside colleagues in the fields of Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Radiology, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery), participate in new device clinical research and gain a broader understanding of medical device innovation and development. Working collaboratively with other endovascular specialists will provide me with a comprehensive view of the care of patients with peripheral vascular and structural heart disease."

|"For any junior interventionist, acquiring the necessary endovascular techniques and clinical skills is a must given the increasing amount of vascular pathology diagnosed in today's patient population. Regardless of one's training background, there is no training experience akin to the one provided by the VIVA Advanced Endovascular Fellowship. After completion of a primary fellowship, this secondary fellowship provides a high volume of complex vascular cases encompassing all vascular territories. In this multidisciplinary environment, one also gains insight into medical device development and current cardiovascular clinical trials through the Fogarty Institute for Innovation and El Camino Hospital. With this unparalleled experience, I am prepared to comprehensively care for any vascular patient."<
